About
Matt Ryan has worked as a broadcaster, writer and producer in Victoria, Austin, and Round Rock.
Past
Matt was born in Victoria, Texas in 1982. His mother, a broadcaster by trade, inspired him to pursue a dream of being in radio. He had two passions throughout his childhood, computers and radio. His interest in computer technology started with his father’s BBS. Sysops in the area met weekly and discussed the latest technology and trends during a time when computers were still finding their way into few households when compared to today.
Matt started his working life as an intern at a local radio station in his home town of Victoria, Texas. He spent a year learning the ins and outs of broadcasting from his then mentor, John E. Ellis. After his term as an intern, he was hired as a disk jockey and traffic director. When the station changed format to Spanish, he moved on to work at Texas Radio during his senior year. At the time, the station was one of the first in the area to have listeners both locally and internationally over their online stream.
After graduating, he came to Austin, Texas to pursue a career in technology. He studied computer science to gain an understanding of technology and history while supporting himself as a support representative.
In 2002, he discovered that Internet TV and radio were reaching a peak in popularity and began producing a pre-recorded news program titled, “Lyceum of the Surreal.” The show ran for about 50 episodes, some of which entered into rotation on Rant Media’s Rant Radio.
During the next few years, he assisted in the founding of Loonsbury Productions. The company specializes in custom software solutions and scripting. Currently, Loonsbury Productions promotes one product, Xschemes, which is a plug-in for Microsoft Excel that makes stylized spreadsheets easier to create and manage.
In 2006, he started broadcasting regularly for Gamer Powered Radio, which had a unique business model in its promotion within the virtual world Second Life. He produced five shows per week, promoting companies, organizations, and clubs that operated both inside and outside virtual worlds.
In 2007, he founded dailypwn.com which is a news and review site dedicated to the world of video games. The site originally included a daily audio podcast along with each article of review though the audio podcast was discontinued in order to concentrate more on writing.
In 2007, he joined Trinity on Radio Akasha, an internet radio station with a large listener base focusing on alternative music, culture, and independent artists.
In 2008, he joined Treet.TV and serves as a producer, host and community manager. Treet is a web-based television network featuring shows filmed inside virtual worlds. The style and topics of the shows range from dirt field racing to talk shows.
In 2010, The Daily PWN: Weekly Review launched on Treet.TV hosted by Matt Ryan’s virtual alter-ego Zen Paine. The weekly review covers several games and news articles relating to the world of video games.
Matt also serves as a producer/director for a nationally syndicated radio show with a television feed available on the web daily. This show focuses on politics and news with commentary by one of the most recognizable faces in talk radio.
